SECOND YEAR
The Meridian Network

"In the treatment of the meridians, the method is above all not to miss the rooting in the spirits."

Nei Jing-Ling Shu Chapter 8, translation by Claude Larre
The main theme of the second year is the study of the meridians. The heart of Iokai Shiatsu is meridian treatment. Masunaga Sensei saw in the meridian an intimate mirroring of the life process in all its physiological, emotional and spiritual dimensions. The meridians are the link between various regions of the body, but also between the myriad interacting life functions, and they are also the reflection of the interaction of body and mind and spirit. A mere intellectual understanding of the meridian system is not enough. We place great emphasis therefore on the development of sensitivity to meridian energy. In the second year everyone has the occasion to build up lots of practical experience in meridian treatment.
Further, we will delve deeper into the theory of Oriental medicine.

Specific items on the program are:
  • the anatomical location of the 12 Iokai meridians;
  • practical localisation of the meridians as well as sensitivity-training and approach to the meridian
  • meridian shiatsu treatment methods
  • meridian stretching both for oneself and to apply to others in therapeutic treatment
  • further development of the katas in relation to meridian treatment
  • joint mobilisation technique
  • working in study groups
  • student to student feedback, self-evaluation and supervision
  • the next chapter of traditional Oriental Medical theory:
    Meridian as life function
    The physiology of the internal organs
    The Five Transformations (continued)
    The concept of Kyo and Jitsu
