THIRD YEAR
Oriental Diagnosis

In the third year the focus is on perceiving and studying the individual life-expression of the other. Thereby is the study of "Ki" always our main subject. How someone expresses himself or herself, or said in another way, how their vital energy or ki becomes visible is our topic. We can define sickness as the way in which the ki is suffering. This indicates which treatment would be applicable to a given person at a given moment. Seen in this way the step from meridian study to diagnosis is very small. Oriental diagnosis is basically nothing more than good, sharp and clear seeing, listening and feeling.

Practically speaking we will be busy with the traditional Four Diagnoses ( si shin). Our emphasis in the third year on the training is on observation and touching. We learn it in theory and apply it to our fellow students. Diagnosis always leads us back to meridian treatment. In our study diagnosis is, in fact, treatment, and conversely treatment always gives diagnostic insight. Specific for Iokai Shiatsu and the core of the third year study program is meridian diagnosis, back diagnosis and hara diagnosis. An additional focus is the study of gravity as an expression of our functional life energy. If the condition of the meridian changes, then the effect of gravity within the body also changes. If all the meridians can adapt to these changed circumstances then harmony will remain and there will be a dynamic balance. By studying gravity we relate every aspect of life to the center and thus to the whole of life.
