WESTERN BASIC MEDICAL THEORY

• Anatomy
• Physiology
• Pathology

This course running parallel to the shiatsu study program is a requirement for the diploma Iokai Shiatsu Therapist. We consider a thorough background understanding of these basic subjects of the Western medical approach as indispensable preparation for someone who wants to work as an Iokai Shiatsu therapist. It is a prerequisite for the social integration of alternative and additive medicine in our social context and also promotes good interaction in the medical field. This course is recognised by the Dutch national professional organisation of Iokai Shiatsu therapists (V.I.S.) that are striving for social recognition.

The course is composed of two parts, one for Anatomy, 36 hours in class and a combined part Physiology/ Pathology of 72 hours in class. It is reasonable to count on an average of 4-6 hours of personal study per week. Every part is completed with a written examination to test the student’s mastery of the subject matter treated. With a satisfactory result the student qualifies for a certificate of completion. It is a prerequisite for the final examination of the training to have obtained these certificates.

Dispensation from this requirement is given to those with medical or paramedical training, such as doctors, nurses and physical therapists. Other exceptions will be individually judged on their merits. There is a separate brochure pertaining to this course (course curriculum and dates for next season) that is available upon request via our office.
